What Base64 encoding does
Base64 represents binary data using 64 safe ASCII characters, so bytes can travel through channels that only accept text — data URIs, JSON, JWT parts, email attachments. This tool encodes text to Base64 and decodes it back, handling Unicode correctly, and runs entirely in your browser with no server calls.
How to encode and decode
- Paste text to encode it to Base64.
- Or paste a Base64 string to decode it back to plain text.
- Copy the result with one click.
Base64 is not encryption
This is the most important thing to know: Base64 is encoding, not encryption. Anyone can decode it instantly — it hides nothing. It exists to make binary data survive text-only transport, not to protect it. Never use Base64 to "secure" a secret; encode is reversible by design.
